Because We Are Human || Looking Back at Marawi
It has been two years since the events in Marawi. last year, I was able to visit again and I was able to go to ground zero.
Back then, I was told not to share my photos, lest I offend people, and at the time, especially considering the cultural tensions in the area, not to mention actually interacting with a spy, i opted to hold on to them for a while.
But it has been a while and there are a plethora of images already, I decided I might as well share mine and share my thoughts regarding war.
War is a terrible and atrocious thing. It forces us to relinquish our reason and cause violence against others. Moreover, we inflict upon others and ourselves, the most grievous of offenses, i.e., the abandonment of our humanity.
As unfortunate as it is, war is part of our reality; however, it must remain as our ultimate and last resort wherein we must give it the longest of pauses at the moment prior to its declaration. We pause in order to give ourselves every last bit of opportunity and hope to maintain all our humanity.
Yet, should this pause fail and we are forced to fight with just cause, we must weep, and deeply mourn both in victory and defeat; for in spite of our best ,yet fallen attempts, we have inflicted wickedness against ourselves, and others, especially the innocent.
For that reason, at the very least, should move all of us to repentance and tears.
About B. W. A. H.
#BeHumanized
B.W.A.H is a project that shares the stories of people: from the common, the unheard, and the mundane, to what is popular, the unique, and even to the extraordinary. It is a place where we meet the faces behind each story: reminding us that behind each story is a person, and that every person is significant. All our stories are important because we are human.
